Women’s Empowerment

Provide support for a widow for £25 a month

For over fifteen years ILM UK has spearheaded several campaigns aimed to help women realise their full potential.

Women's empowerment has become a significant topic of discussion in development and economics. Women's economic empowerment refers to the ability for women to enjoy their right to control and benefit from resources, assets, income and their own time, as well as the ability to manage risk and improve their economic status and well-being. Improving education for women helps raise their levels of health and nutrition and reduces infertility rates.

Our Women’s Empowerment program develops women’s leadership, strengthens women’s organisations, increases women’s rights and ensures their personal security, thus creating new political and economic opportunities for women across South Asia.

Our sewing machine, needlework and fruit growing classes are designed to empower women to become self-sufficient and independent. When qualified a woman then receives her own sewing machine or farming equipment to help form a village cooperative and encourage others to follow on.

Widow Support

More than 57 million widows live in Asia and they are often are victims of poverty, ostracism and humiliation, and they can be vulnerable to abuse.

In many areas of Asia, they are an invisible part of society. Commonly ignored and rejected, they are believed to be cursed and the cause of their husbands' deaths—and their own upbringing leads them to believe those same things about themselves.

ILM UK provides support for widows and their children since they continually struggle with fighting hunger and disease. Without nutritious food and basic household goods these families struggle to get out of the downward spiral of poverty.

How you can help:

Sponsor a widow - £25 per month

Sponsor a widow - £300 per annum

Provide 5 sewing machines and a class - £500

Single or monthly donations of any amount will help towards our ongoing running costs of centres. It will also help us build new centres.
