The last 10 nights of Ramadan hold even greater significance as this is when the Night of Power, or Laylat al-Qadr, falls.

It is widely believed that the Night of Power falls on the 27th night of Ramadan, although some scholars claim that this could fall on any of the last 10 odd nights in Ramadan 2023 and every other year. For this reason, many Muslims choose to spread out their Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) charity donations across the last 10 nights of the month.

Why do Muslims Give Charity Over the Last 10 Nights of Ramadan?
Answer

ANSWER

In Islam, it is believed that a donation made on the Night of Power is equal to giving every day for a thousand months (80 years), and thus, the rewards and benefits are multiplied accordingly. The 27th night of Ramadan is always the most popular time for Muslims to give charity for this reason.

Donating Zakat al-Fitr

Zakat al-Fitr, or Fitrana, is an obligatory payment that must be made by all Muslims during the Holy month of Ramadan before the Eid prayers begin. This is not to be confused with Zakat, which is also an obligatory payment that can be made at any point of the year, as long as the person qualifies to make the payment and has a personal wealth that exceeds the nisab threshold.

Both types of Zakat (Zakat al-Fitr and Zakat) can be paid during Ramadan, with Muslims often choosing to give both during the last 10 nights of Ramadan. All donations that are made will be put to good use through ILM, allowing our amazing team of volunteers to distribute funds to those who are most in need, both domestically and around the world.

The Rewards of Donating on Laylat al-Qadr

As we have already touched upon, the rewards of making your donation are multiplied by that of a thousand months. As is written in the Holy Qur’an:

“SURELY, WE HAVE REVEALED TO YOU THE GRAND NIGHT, AND WHAT WILL MAKE YOU COMPREHEND WHAT THE GRAND NIGHT IS? THE GRAND NIGHT IS BETTER THAN A THOUSAND MONTHS. THE ANGELS AND THE SPIRIT DESCEND IN IT BY THE PERMISSION OF THEIR LORD FOR EVERY AFFAIR. PEACE! IT IS TILL THE BREAK OF THE MORNING.”

The 27th night, which is widely believed to be the auspicious Night of Power, is the most popular of the last 10 nights of Ramadan for Muslims to make their donations.

How ILM Will Distribute Your Donations

ILM will distribute your donations accordingly as per your wishes, ensuring all those most deserving and in need receive supplies such as food, water, and hygiene resources. When you make your donation, you can choose to support any of our appeals.

During the last 10 nights of Ramadan 2023, we will be eagerly awaiting your donations as you mark this year’s Night of Power by giving charity in search of multiplied rewards and blessings. This will ensure that we can continue the work in Allah’s (SWT) name, providing essential supplies for our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world.
