Emergency Appeal For The Desperate Victims Of Severe Flooding In Pakistan

Flooding in Pakistan has destroyed lives

The unprecedented monsoon rains which started in Pakistan in June 2022 and show no sign of stopping have caused widespread flooding across the whole country. The floods have already killed over 1,000 people across Pakistan with over a quarter of a million homes destroyed or badly damaged. Over a third of Pakistan is under water and estimates show over 33 million people are displaced.

Help families affected

Due to the severity of the flooding, essential aid has taken a while to reach the victims of the flood and people are struggling to survive. The people worst affected already had very little and now have nothing left.

Our initial response

Our teams are on the ground in South Punjab, Sindh & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa responding to the urgent need by providing:

  • Help with evacuation using boats
  • Essential first aid medicine
  • Warm cooked food
  • Safe drinking water
  • Hygiene kits
  • Cash grants to flood victims
  • Medical camps

Longer term response

ILM is providing cooked meals with water as well as distributing food parcels and emergency relief packs including food, kitchen utensils, tents, and hygiene kits to address the immediate needs of the victims. We have also set up medical camps to provide health care and medicines.

In the longer term, when the floods dry out, we will be rebuilding houses to rehome victims and help families rebuild their lives. The houses will be built with cemented platform bases and iron roofs to reduce the risk of damage in the future.

There will be a long-term impact from the floods and it is expected that thousands more will be affected by water-borne diseases, malnutrition and a severe lack of infrastructure and resources.
